Suvarnabhumi Airport: Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) together with related organizations are carrying out an integrated test of various technical systems at Suvarnabhumi Airport today prior to a commercial in the near future.
Mr. Srisook Chandrangsu, Airports of Thailand’s Chairman of the Board said; “AOT is today carrying out a complete technical integration test at Suvarnabhumi Airport, covering systems run by Thai Airways International Plc, Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co. Ltd., Customs Department and Immigration Bureau. These systems include security, baggage handling, runways and other facilities and the integrated test is expected to be satisfactory. The A340-600 aircraft boarded by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and the B747-400 boarded by members of the press also landed safely at Suvarnabhumi Airport.”
A total of 26 CTX9000 scanning machines are functioning properly. The international standard baggage handling system enables passengers to pick up their baggage as soon as they reach the system. The integrated testing will have to continue until approval is received from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Once the airport systems have been approved, Suvarnabhumi Airport will have a commercial launch and become the pride of Thai people. The First Technical Flight for Integration Test is supported by Thai Airways International Plc and Bangkok Airways Co Ltd.
Mr. Somchainuk Engtrakul, Thai Airways International’s Board Member acting as President said: “The newest A340-600 aircraft boarded by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will be the first aircraft to land at Suvarnabhumi Airport, followed by the B747-400 aircraft boarded by over 200 VIP guests and members of the press. In preparation for the flight landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thai Airways International has already transferred necessary equipments from Bangkok International Airport and assigned maintenance operators to stand by on this historical occasion. We are confident that all our staff will be ready to perform their duties during this special flight.”
As the First Technical Flight to undergo the Airport Systems Integration Test, this is indeed one of the Thailand’s historical moments. To mark this event Thai Airways International will issue special boarding passes and exclusive souvenirs to all passengers joining the First Technical Flight.
Thai Airways International Plc’s investment at Suvarnabhumi Airport covers 6 main activities including cargo and mail commercial, ground support equipment services, customer services, catering services, aircraft maintenance center and operations center. All these projects are being undertaken separately (Fast Track). The structural construction and system installation have already been completed as planned and only the process of interior design remains to be finished. Therefore all these facilities will be operational for the commercial launch in 2006.
Mr. Priti Hetrakul, President of Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co., Ltd, said: “The result of today’s first technical flight guarantees the efficiency and complete operation of the state-of-the-art Aeronautical Telecommunication Network, OPMET Data Bank and Main Collection Center which have been certified by the Department of Air Transportation. The Radio Air Network between pilots and air control officers is also fully effective. ART is ready to function to the utmost efficiency in order to build confidence among airport users before its commercial launch next year.”
