Bangkok--Oct 11--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), SETTRADE.Com Co. Ltd., and the Thai Investors Association (TIA) promote traditional Thai chess and encourage Thai youth to spend their school break productively. The “Thai Youth Chess Championship 2005” will be held, with total prizes worth over THB70,000. Apply today through Oct. 21, 2005.
The SET announced that SETTRADE.Com, the TIA, and it have been promoting traditional Thai chess among youth groups. In 2004, these organizations co-hosted several matches for students, the general public and chess wizards to encourage healthy competition. The events are well liked, especially by the younger players, as is being reflected in the increasing number of applicants for each new championship.
“Traditional Thai chess is one of Thailand’s treasures, as we’ve developed our own board game. Preserving and promoting this game should be encouraged, as it helps develop the minds and logical thinking of its youthful Thai players who will then be able to bring us all great pride through their accomplishments. We hope this championship will attract many more young chess players and enthusiasts, as the past matches have,” said Mr. Kittiratt.
SETTRADE’s CEO, Ms. Chanisa Chutipat stated, “This Thai Youth Chess Championship is special in that after each round, well-known Thai chess champions will comment and analyze the games for players. This will help participants to learn more to further develop their chess playing skills. This is a rare opportunity indeed.”
The Thai Youth Chess Championship 2005 will be divided into 5 levels: the Junior Elementary (not over 10 years old), Senior Elementary (not over 13), Junior High (not over 16), Senior High (not over 19) and College Levels (not over 25). The competition will use the 9-round Swiss standard, in which the players’ moves will not be recorded.
Winners of the elementary and high school levels will each receive a THB5,000 cash prize, trophy and certificate. The second runners-up will each receive a THB3,000 cash prize, plaque and certificate. The third runners-up will each receive a THB2,000 cash prize, plaque and certificate. The 4th — 10th place players will each receive a THB500 prize and certificate.
