Bangkok--Nov 22--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), SETTRADE.Com Co. Ltd., and the Thai Investors Association (TIA) granted prizes collectively worth approximately THB70,000 to young Thai chess players from throughout Thailand. These talented kids won places in the “Traditional Thai Chess Challenge for Youth 2005”. Despite the match being over, the organizers will continue to promote Thai chess by holding regular training.
The organizers held the “Traditional Thai Chess Challenge for Youth 2005” over the past school break period. Almost 300 students participated in the competition.
SET President Mr. Kittiratt Na-Ranong said, “The chess challenge was beneficial to the students, as they learned from experts who analyzed their strategies after the games. It was also our pleasure to see young players from Bangkok and elsewhere perform so well and display so much potential.”
In addition to the chess competition, the SET and its subsidiary continue to encourage Thai youth to spend time usefully by organizing a “Be Competent Like a (Chess) Wizard” program. Interested persons can apply for training in either international or traditional Thai chess. The program is open for all, without charge, on Sundays between 10:00 — 16:00 hrs. at the SET Building. Applications can be filed by calling tel: 0-2229-2795-6 or contacting in person at the Exhibition Hall, 1st Floor, the SET Bldg.
The SET, SETTRADE.Com, and the TIA regularly host chess competitions during school breaks to continually promote traditional Thai chess, as this game develops the players’ minds, their concentration, as well as their planning and problem-solving skills. Thus, it’s a useful alternative activity that kids can safely spend their off time doing.
