Bangkok--Nov 29--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) in conjunction with the Thai Investors’ Association (TIA) will host the Thai Investors’ Day with support from the Federation of Thai Capital Market Organizations (FeTCO). The event will take place every first weekend of the month, starting December 3 — 4, 2005.
The Thai Investors’ Days is aimed at continually promoting a greater understanding of personal finance, financial planning, short and long term investing and risk management amongst Thailand’s students and general investors.
President of the TIA, Mr. Wichai Poolworaluck, said, “With the time scheduled on weekends, like a weekend market, investors will have a better opportunity to become more and more familiar with the world of finance and investment. Once people become more comfortable with finances they will be eager to learn more and enter into the investment world. This will influence the creation of a quality investment culture in the future.
“The securities, investment management, and listed companies will all also benefit, as the event will be yet another channel which they can use to directly communicate with existing and potential investors.
“The TIA is determined to help develop the Thai capital market. It is essential to develop quality investors and expand the market’s investor base. The Thai Investors’ Days will helping fulfill these objectives, as they will regularly showcase a variety of products and services in the capital market. Investors will gain more information and learn more about their investment choices. This activity should effectively help with investor base expansion. The TIA expects that about 50,000 people will participate in the events each year.
“Holding these events will showcase the investment world to a variety of people monthly, similar to a fair or market that visitors can regularly visit. Each month’s theme will be different and interesting. Each event it is therefore not to be missed.”
The venue for the Thai Investors’ Day event will be the 1st to 3rd floors of the SET building. Also, listed companies will be exhibiting in front of the building.
On the 1st floor, securities and investment management companies will offer their services. Small seminar sessions will also be held. Currently, 56 companies, including 8 event sponsors, have already confirmed their participation.
On the 2nd floor, there will be an investment clinic by securities analysts and small seminar groups organized by the SET and its subsidiaries. Visitors to the 3rd floor will see booths of the SET and its subsidiaries. Also, there will be nearly 400 public seminar topics held at the Prof. Sangvian Indaravijaya Auditorium on the 3rd floor throughout the year, reaching a total of about 30,000 persons. There will be training in another smaller meeting room for holders of TIA Passbooks.
“We’ve got satisfactory feedback at the recent ‘SET in the City 2005’ as about 3,000 people have already received their TIA Passbooks to join the coming Thai Investors’ Day. In addition the TIA has approximately 1,000 of its own members. The figures show that the number of participants in each month’s Thai Investors’ Day can be as targeted,” Mr. Wichai said.
FeTCO Chairman, Dr. Kongkiat Opaswongkarn, noted that one of FeTCO’s missions was to enlarge the investor base as well as develop the quality of investors. This will be included in Thailand’s capital market master plan for the next five years.
“Holding the Thai Investors’ Day regularly should promote more interest amongst Thai people and eventually create a savings and investment culture. This should help develop the Thai capital market in the long-run. The event will show the spirit and unity of the various organizations in the Thai capital market as well.”
