The Stock Exchange of Thailand’s (SET) sit-com educating audiences about personal finance skills has proved itself successful. The bourse is now ready to move on with other savings promotion activities.
The Family Know-How Co. Ltd.’s (FKH) Managing Director, Mr. Ratchapol Laovanitch, is also the producer of the “Sathon-Don Chedi” sit-com which is Thailand’s first sit-com aimed at instilling personal finance habits using an entertaining approach.
“Educating through this sit-com is the start of the SET’s move to a different approach in market education. It is intended to encourage good saving habits,” Mr. Ratchapol said.
The “Sathon-Don Chedi” sit-com has been on-air on Thailand’s TV3 every Thursday and Friday since October 6, 2005, and will finish around the end of January 2006.
Throughout 2006, the FKH plans to continue to hold educational activities. This will include a nationwide roadshow to encourage good saving habits among children.
The SET’s cartoon animation entitled “Zoo of the Piggy Banks”, and its new promotional movie will also be broadcasted soon.
One ongoing activity is the storybook contest project. The latest updates on the contest are available on the Money Channel, which can be viewed on UBC97, the Thai Global Network (TGN) an on local cable networks.
To promote the TV sit-com, viewers were encouraged to send postcards answering what they would do with THB100 million. The lucky winners, who will receive their shares of the total prizes worth THB300,000, will be announced on January 17, 2006, in local newspapers.
The “Sathon-Don Chedi” sit-com is sponsored by the Bangkok Bank, Muang Thai Life Insurance and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives. The story is about two different families—one old- and the newly-rich —who behave and spend differently. The series has leading actors and actresses and is really both entertaining and educating.
