To increase productivity in the Cargo Free Zone warehouse and develop Thailands new airport as a logistics hub for Asia in the near future, Thai Airport Ground Services (TAGS) will utilise information and communications technology to implement what they call the Airport Cargo Community System (ACCS) at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Supachai Keowsiri, information technology division director of TAGS, explained that ACCS is an integrated IT and X-ray system for the Cargo Free Zone.
The system will involve import and export inspection at the cargo terminal and checking points to enable transfer of information about inspections to the ACCS data centre. As a result, it will increase cargo-management productivity and provide value-added goods and products at the free-zone warehouse. It will also be the stocking area for import and export goods and various products before their delivery to the third country or local destination.
Supachai said that ACCS is also able to connect with various organisations to transfer and exchange information between partners and organisations via the nine main systems system administration management, the declaration system, FEDI and the electronics payment system, the cargo-management system, the container X-ray management programme, the flight-information display system, the management information system, Oracle database management and the free-zone information exchange. As a result, ACCS will reduce the time involved in management in the cargo-free zone.
He added that the company will also implement RFID tracking so that it can utilise information technology to combine and repackage products during cargo-free-zone operations. RFID tracking will not only increase productivity when tracking goods or products from cargo-free zones to destinations. It will reduce the time taken for cargo management of products from three days to one.
The total warehouse space for utilisation of the cargo-free zone operation is 568,800 square metres and it will be able to handle three million tonnes of cargo a year.
The firm also has plans to establish application service providers and IT service providers for import and export businesses by the end of this year and to utilise information technology to support import and export businesses.
