Bangkok--15 Mar--PTT
Despite its commercial start up scheduling in May this year, MIGP has already become PTT Utility Co., Ltd.’s first “Non-PTT Group Related” client to sign the Sale/Purchase Contract on electricity and steam. Moreover, to serve higher demand of steam from PTT’s petrochemical businesses, PTTUT also plans to expand its production capacity in the near future.
Mr. Wisnu Wongsomboon, Managing director of PTT Utility Co., Ltd. (PTTUT) revealed that PTTUT and MIG Production Co., Ltd. (MIGP) recently signed the Electricity and Steam Sale/Purchase Agreement. Under the 15-year agreement worth totally over Bt8 billion, starting June 2006, PTTUT will supply 33 megawatts of electricity and 15 tons per hour of steam to MIGP’s Air Separation Unit who will further supply industrial gas as the raw material to TOC Glycol Co., Ltd which is the subsidiary company under PTT (PTT Public Co., Ltd.) Group of Companies.
Mr. Wisnu said currently PTTUT’s Central Utility Plant unit 1 is running the production capacity at 37.5 megawatts of electricity and 190 tons per hour of steam. However, it plans to boost its production capacity by late 2007 to 150 megawatts of electricity and 600 tons per hour of steam. In addition, PTTUT plans to expand its business with the total service coverage area in Maptaphut Industrial Estate by constructing the Central Utility Plant unit 2, 3, and 4 one-by-one with the combined production capacity of the three units at 550 megawatts. The construction is expected to be fully completed by 2010 in order to prepare for the rising demand of electricity and steam from PTT’s petrochemical businesses.
As the company under PTT Group, PTTUT is owned 40% by PTT, 40% by PTT Chemical, and 20% by Aromatics (Thailand). PTTUT is the producer and supplier of utilities such as electricity, steam, and demineralized water to the companies under PTT Group. PTTUT was set up to serve PTT’s petrochemical business expansion in which there will be higher demand of steam. Excess demand will then be sold to others such as MIGP.
