Bangkok--5 Sep--SET
Enrolments of Bangkok investment professionals for the globally recognized exams reached a record high number of 500 this June
The CFA Society of Thailand today announced that 60 candidates who sat the final Level III Chartered Financial Analyst? (CFA?) examination in Bangkok this June were successful. These candidates, most of whom are investment professionals working in Thailand’s securities, asset management and banking industries, will be awarded the prestigious CFA charter, subject to fulfilling work experience and other requirements. The new CFA charterholders will bring the total number of charterholders in Thailand to at least 260.
President of the CFA Society of Thailand, Chanitr Charnchainarong, said, “We are delighted by the high number of Level III passes this year. This represents a very significant increase over the 23 Level III passes we had in Bangkok in both 2005 and 2004. The passing rate amongst local candidates has improved and another important factor has been the very steady increase in the number of candidates enrolling for the CFA program in Bangkok. In fact, this is the first year(June 2006) we had over 500 candidates for all three Levels of the CFA program.”
The CFA Program sets a globally recognized standard for measuring the competence and integrity of financial analysts, portfolio managers and investment advisers. The exam tests four major topic areas: ethical and professional standards, tools and inputs for investment valuation and management, asset valuation, and portfolio management and performance presentation.
“It is truly gratifying to see that the CFA charter is now gaining such wide acceptance amongst investment professionals and employers in the Thai market as the only internationally recognized investment qualification. Employers we have talked to particularly like the fact that the CFA body of knowledge is continuously updated. For example, corporate governance, a topic which has recently become dramatically more relevant to investors globally, is now covered extensively in all three levels of the CFA program,” said Pisit Jeungpraditphan, secretary of the CFA Society of Thailand.
A candidate must pass each of the three levels of the CFA examination to earn the coveted CFA charter. Fewer than one in five candidates who begin the arduous program successfully complete it. Level I is administered twice a year, in June and December, and Levels II and III are administered only in June. Currently, more than 69,600 investment professionals in 134 affiliated professional societies in 55 countries and territories hold the CFA charter.
