Bangkok--25 Oct--Siemens
The Siemens Power Generation Group (PG) together with its consortium partner Marubeni Corp., Japan today signed a contract with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to build a new turnkey 700 MW combined cycle power plant to be incorporated in EGAT’s Bang Pakong facility Block V in Chachoengsao province.
Under the contract, the Siemens Marubeni Consortium (SMC) will provide all equipment and services associated with the design, manufacture, installation, and construction of a combined cycle facility consisting of two highly efficient SGT5-4000F Gas Turbines (formerly known as V94.3A which has been in use worldwide since 1997), 2 Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG) and one Steam Turbine. The primary fuel of the new unit will be natural gas with oil as secondary fuel.
The electricity demand in Thailand is increasing as major industries in the fields of metalworking, textile, paper and rubber, etc. need more power for the production facilities. This new facility will be connected to the transmission system through 230 kV switchyard at the plant.
“As the technical leader of the consortium, Siemens AG, Siemens Thailand and Marubeni, we are very proud because this new Bang Pakong Combined Cycle Power Plant Block V project will be built based on a proven world-class technology”, stated Mr. Lothar Herrmann, President and CEO of Siemens Ltd., Thailand. “This will add to our long-standing cooperation between Siemens and the Kingdom of Thailand and reinforces our commitment to the economic and social development of the Thai nation”, added Siemens’ chief.
“We are very delighted and honored that EGAT has trusted us to be the project contractor and equipment provider. This success underscores our leading position in the global power industry”, added Mr. Dietmar Siersdorfer, President of Power Generation Energy Solutions of Siemens AG.
The Bang Pakong Combined Cycle Power Plant Block V will be located within the compound of Bang Pakong Power Station, in Tha Kham Subdistrict, Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao Province. The construction is scheduled to be completed in March 2009.
