Bangkok--30 Oct--TMC
Technology Management Center (TMC) has acquired the rights to technology used to produce EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) translucent polymer film developed by Thai researchers. TMC is ready to license and transfer this technology to local entrepreneurs in the plastic industry.
EVA translucent polymer film is a vital component for the production of solar cells produced both in Thailand and overseas. EVA translucent polymer film is used as glue to bind solar cells to the glass plate and to protect solar cells from humidity.
Prof.Dr. Chachanat Thebtaranonth, Director of Technology Management Center (TMC) said that EVA translucent polymer film technology was jointly developed with King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi. TMC holds the rights to this technology and is ready to license and transfer the technology for commercialization. Production of solar cells in Thailand is growing steadily. There is also export potential for the film to producers of solar cells overseas.
Dr. Porponth Sichanugrist, Deputy Director of Technology Management Center (TMC), and Director of Institute of Solar Energy Technology Development (ISET) said that Thailand needed 875 tons of EVA translucent polymer film or 1.75 million square meters a year. Total market value of EVA translucent film was Bt 245 million. At present, all EVA film used in Thailand must be imported.
“Imported EVA film costs around Bt 130 per square meter. Domestic production of EVA film will reduce the cost of EVA film to around Bt 80 per square metre. The quality of EVA translucent polymer film produced using our technology meets all international standards. The film protects solar cells against humidity. It is resistant to heat and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The use of this EVA film also helps increase efficiency of production and reduce the time needed for fabrication” Dr. Porponth said.
Translucent polymer solar cells film is made from Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA). The film adheres well to glass and is resistant to heat, UV radiation, and humidity, making it suitable for the production of solar cells. The technology offered by TMC adds values to products made by local polymer film producers.
Entrepreneurs interested in licensing EVA technology may contact Technology Licensing Office or Institute of Solar Energy Technology Development, units of Technology Management Center at 0-2564-7000 ext. 2713 or 2711. For more details, visit http://www.tmc.nstda.or.th/iset
