DTAC-TrueMove signed the industry’s 1st interconnection agreement

Bangkok--17 Nov--DTAC
DTAC (Total Access Communication) signed its first bilateral interconnection agreement with TrueMove. The rates are in accordance with the Reference Interconnection Offer (RIO), which the NTC approved on August 24, 2006.
The operators are requested to submit the final bilateral agreement to the NTC for approval within 15 days.
This follows the timeline specified in the Interconnection Framework in the Royal Gazette on May 17, 2006, the NTC’s subsequent approval of DTAC’s Reference Interconnect Offer (RIO) on August 24, 2006 and its request for interconnection received by other the operators on October 4 2006. According to NTC regulations, the bi-lateral interconnect negotiations must be completed within 90 days from when the requested party receives notification. If the operators can not reach an agreement within the 90 days, the NTC will force an interim rate.
Chief Executive Officer Sigve Brekke said the agreement marked the first major step towards a fully liberalized telecommunications industry.
“We are very happy with the signing today not because it is our first bilateral interconnection agreement or even the first one ever signed in the Thai telecom industry, but we are also happy because the interconnection regime will be instrumental in creating a sustainable development for the whole industry. This will greatly benefit Thai consumers in the end. We are also working hard to complete similar agreements with other operators to meet the NTC’s 90-day timeframe,” he said.
