The next leg of The Amazing Race Asia was even more challenging, as the Teams found themselves scaling great heights and facing fearsome sea creatures. Injury threatened to remove one of the Teams, and another Team risked getting a four-hour penalty. This was one leg of The Amazing Race Asia with too many close calls!
HEADING OUT…
Once again, after a mandated rest period, the Teams set off to the destination for the next leg of the race, with Howard & Sahran being the first team to leave at 12.31am, followed by Francesca & Sandy, and Sharon & Melody — the positions that they came in, in the last leg.
Smart Alec… Again?!
Laura and Andy took advantage of a stopover en-route to the next destination, to hide the maps of the next location at some bookstores. “If it gives us a competitive advantage, we’ve got to do it,” Andy said, “I’m not coming in seventh again.” Will he succeed this time in gaining an advantage over other teams?
Detour!
The Teams burst into the airport of the next destination at the same time and things got a little rough in their enthusiasm, when someone got knocked down. The Race is certainly heating up!
The Teams came to a Detour — one of the tasks involved scaling great heights, while the other involved shelling 14kg of prawns!
One team chose to scale the heights but changed their minds because of the strain suffered from the previous leg of the Race, while another team who chose to shell the prawns decided to switch task because they realized it was going to take them too much time… which team made the right decision? Would their changing of mind cost them time?
Sahran was again faced with having to tackle his fear of heights. But having already conquered his fear in the first leg, would he be able to do it a second time, just so that he and Howard could finish this task faster by choosing to scale heights?
Peeling the prawns turned out to a be a monumental task — one that takes professionals 45 minutes, but that took the Teams slightly longer. Prashant & Sahil had no luck peeling the prawns, having to go back through what they peeled earlier because not all of the shell had come off.
Twists and Turns…
Unexpected hurdles greeted the Teams as they continued to make their way around to complete the tasks for this leg:
Wrong way, guys…
Andy & Laura did not read their clue properly, and went to their next destination by taxi when they were supposed to go on foot, thereby ended up losing time because they had to drive back to their original point before setting out on foot again.
Francesca & Sandy also lost some time at another checkpoint, having to backtrack when they realised that their taxi was taking them across the bridge … when they were supposed to cross the bridge by taking a ferry from the ferry terminal.
Oh dear, it’s the wrong tune!
Another task involved Teams having to use a Sony HD Handycam to record a volunteer singing a local tune. If the song was in the right tune, the Teams would receive the next clue. Sharon & Melody, Sandy & Francesca, as well as Mardy and Marsio, had a setback when they came back with videos of someone singing the wrong tune.
Shark attack!
Teams came to a Roadblock, where it required one team member to dive into a tank full of sharks to search for their next clue.
Howard, who volunteered for the task, had some trouble completing the task, hence risking a four-hour penalty. Would he be able to overcome his fear and complete it?
Injury strikes…
Laura tripped, and in the fall injured her leg. She had to receive medical attention, and tests would determine whether she would be able to continue in the Race…
So many things happened along the way that the positions of the teams became unpredictable, and changed around as they crossed each unexpected hurdle. Which team would become the ultimate victim and get eliminated??
