Bangkok--26 Mar--Ogilvy
The Executive Committee of the Advertising Association of Thailand (AAT) today announced complete event details and information surrounding the 4th annual Adman Awards & Symposium 2007 — the premier local awards festival for Thailand’s advertising industry, scheduled on Friday, June 8, 2007 at the Royal Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon.
This year’s festival carries the theme of Love at Second Sight. The theme aims to value advertising campaigns that are able to effectively and deliberately communicate the brand and product’s intended message on closer scrutiny. The idea also encourages the trait of working to achieve fundamental purpose of the advertisement, rather than striving for creating smashing outcome or being too passionate about hunting award.
New award category — ‘Honor the King’ has been especially incorporated in Adman Awards for only 2006 and 2007 to honor His Majesty King Bhumibol on the auspicious occasion of His 80th Birthday Anniversary. The award is open for advertising work in four areas — TV, Print, Outdoor & Ambience and Radio.
The Adman Awards has currently become known for recognizing Thailand’s world-class creative work in the fields of advertising and design, specifically in the areas of TV, Print, Outdoor, Radio, Integrated Campaign, Online, and Design. It has also been perceived as a de facto screening step for local creative work to seek global recognition in the Cannes Lions, given the fact that several winners at the Adman in recent years went on to win in the advertising industry’s most prestigious international awards festival.
Serving as the new chairman of the Judging Committee at Adman Awards 2007 will be Thor Santisiri, Chairman and Executive Creative Director of TBWA Thailand. The Judging Committee comprises 17 members, of which 15 are Thai and 2 are foreigners.
Media partners for Adman Awards & Symposium 2006 include Brand Age magazine and The Bangkok Post.
Parames Rachjaibun, Chairman Emeritus of the AAT and The Chairman of the Organizing Committee, said: “In three years of operation, the Adman Awards & Symposium has received overwhelming success in recognizing Thailand’s world-class advertising talent and creative work. Same as before, this year we will also include two foreign members in the Judging Committee in order to achieve truly internationally accepted standard.”
“The festival also includes two Symposiums — a student symposium being sponsored and co-hosted by Rangsit University, and an executive symposium being co-hosted by Brand Age magazine. These forums serve as a platform for discussion as well as idea and experience
sharing among advertising people and university students who are studying in the field.” added Parames.
Categories / Awards
This year’s judging criteria has been slightly revised. The awards have been divided into 10 categories; TV Commercials, Print, Outdoor & Ambience, Radio Spot, Graphic Design, Innovative Media, Public Relations Campaign, Event Marketing, Integrated Campaign and “Honor the King”. The number of total awards is 288.
The “Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC)” is new category this year and open for campaign that has appeared in at least three different media.
The “Honor the King” category is open in four areas; TVC, Print, Outdoor & Ambience and Radio Spot. The award is divided into ‘single’ and ‘campaign’ type. Only ‘Best’ award is granted in this category, no ‘Gold’, ‘Silver’, ‘Bronze’ and ‘Finalist’.
The winning awards will be limited to five in each respective category — including 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze, excluding ‘Best of the Best’ award.
“With two new categories added, we anticipate more entries this year, which may reach as many as 1,300 submissions. This competition this year will be fiercer and more compelling.” said Thor Santisiri, chairman of the Judging Committee.
Entry submission is open during 24 April until 4 May 2007.
Adman Symposium
The Adman Symposium is the second component of the festival, which includes both a student and executive symposium. This year’s Student Symposium, under the theme: “Advertising — What They Don’t Teach You at School”, will be co-hosted by Rangsit University and the AAT. The Executive Symposium, under the theme: “Consumer Co-Creation Advertising”, will be hosted at Sasin Hall, 9th Floor, Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University. Both symposiums will take place on the same day as the Awards — Friday, June 8 at 13.00 — 17.00 hrs.
The Adman Symposium will be comprised of several collaborative and educational sessions, with participants sharing ideas and experiences relative to the advertising industry. Moderators and panels will interact with attendees to share key learnings and relevant case studies, as well as discuss and identify trends that might help shape the future of the advertising industry.
