Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR) and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity?, announced today it is one of the companies IBM is collaborating with to provide more energy efficient solutions to its customers toughest energy problems.
IBM is strategically teaming with technology leaders, such as Emerson Network Power, to create an ecosystem dedicated to setting new standards for energy efficient services and products. Currently, Emerson Network Power provides Liebert cooling solutions that are embedded in select IBM systems.
“We have been working side by side with IBM in the data center since 1965 and are excited about this opportunity to extend our relationship to address this critical issue facing our industry,” said Bob Bauer, Emerson group vice president and Liebert Worldwide president. “Business-critical information systems and the power and cooling systems that support them have become so interdependent that it is only by working together that we can deliver solutions that reduce energy consumption in the face of rising demand for computing and storage capacity.”
“IBM, with its broad set of capabilities and ecosystem of partners, is setting a new standard for data center energy efficiency,” said Steven Sams, IBM vice president, Site and Facilities Services. “Energy efficiency is a crisis facing organizations around the world and IBM is pleased to be working with Emerson Network Power to provide environmentally friendly solutions such as high-efficiency UPS systems and supplemental cooling technologies.”
Emerson Network Power through its channel partners provides solutions for data center efficiency across three centers of expertise: precision cooling, AC power and embedded power. Together these solutions address the challenge of data center energy efficiency from the utility grid to the computer chip.
Liebert offers variable-capacity precision cooling units from Emerson Network Power that use Digital Scroll? technology to enhance cooling efficiency at reduced loads and advanced controls that increase the coordination between multiple cooling units in a data center. Liebert supplemental cooling technologies reduce the amount of energy required to move air in the data center, and use a high-efficiency refrigerant, to reduce cooling-related energy costs.
High-efficiency Astec and Artesyn power supplies from Emerson Network Power improve server energy efficiency by 8-10 percent compared to legacy power supplies, creating the opportunity to generate energy savings of 12 to 15 percent when the reduced demand on cooling systems is taken into account. Emerson Network Power also recently unveiled its DS series switching power supply with digital controls and compliance with the PMBus? power management protocol to optimize server power consumption. Liebert UPS and power distribution technologies support the delivery of high voltage power to data center systems, reducing distribution losses and further enhancing efficiency.
