The Adman Awards & Symposium 2007, the premier local awards festival for Thailand’s advertising industry, now in its fourth year, carries the theme of “Love at 2nd Sight”. The theme aims to value advertising campaigns that are able to effectively and deliberately communicate the brand and product’s intended message on closer scrutiny, rather than just creating smashing outcome. The idea also encourages the trait of working to achieve fundamental purpose of the advertisement, rather than striving for creating smashing outcome or being too passionate about hunting award.
New award category - Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) is incorporated this year to celebrate current breakthrough of mixed marketing. In addition, the ‘Honor the King’ category has also been especially incorporated for only 2006 and 2007 to honor His Majesty King Bhumibol on the auspicious occasion of His 80th Birthday Anniversary. The award is open for advertising work in four areas — TV, Print, Outdoor & Ambience and Radio.
The Adman Awards has currently become known for recognizing Thailand’s world-class creative work in the fields of advertising and design, specifically in the areas of TV, Print, Outdoor, Radio, Integrated Campaign, Online, and Design. It has also been perceived as a de facto screening step for local creative work to seek global recognition in the Cannes Lions, given the fact that several winners at the Adman in recent years went on to win in the advertising industry’s most prestigious international awards festival.
Serving as the new chairman of the Judging Committee at Adman Awards 2007 is Thor Santisiri, Chairman and Executive Creative Director of TBWA Thailand. The Judging Committee comprises 17 members, of which 15 are Thai and 2 are foreigners.
Parames Rachjaibun, the Chairman of the Adman Organizing Committee revealed that: “This year’s Adman Awards received overwhelming response with 998 entries, approximately 10% less than last year. Despite the decreasing number of entries, we are very satisfied with the outcome taking into account the current declining economy.
In addition, the entries for Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) category which we just added this year was considerably high. We also received substantially increasing entries for the Innovative Media, Public Relations and Event Marketing categories on which we are putting more and more focus.
This year’s judging criteria are tougher and more absolute. The ‘Gold’ award goes to only one single best. There’s no case of “tie” winners.”
