Abu Dhabi, today signed an agreement with Bumrungrad International Limited to manage Al Mafraq Hospital in the United Arab Emirates. The agreement between the two parties was signed at the Al Bateen Palace in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
Under the agreement the popular hospital in the Mafraq region, which currently has an in-patient capacity of 460 acute care beds, plus 14 intensive care and 14 special care baby unit beds, and is visited by an estimated 310,000 patients including more than 25,000 inpatients annually will be managed according to international clinical best-practice and high standards of patient satisfaction. Simultaneously, a new modern hospital building will be constructed on an adjacent site starting this year that will replace the current facility by mid-2011.
After the signing, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan commented: “This agreement marks another important step towards implementing the vision of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, to provide the people of Abu Dhabi with a health system within their own country that delivers consistent clinical quality and care standards. Attracting the world’s best healthcare institutions, such as Bumrungrad International to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is a vital part of the Government’s health policy; it ensures the very best global health care management expertise is available without the need to travel.”
Present at the ceremony were the senior dignitaries from Bumrungrad International as well as representatives of the Royal Thai Embassy. The two signatories were H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Chairman and CEO of the Health Authority Abu Dhabi and Member of the Executive Council, and Mr. Dennis Brown, Chief Executive Officer, Bumrungrad International Limited.

Bumrungrad joins an elite group of international hospitals invited to manage hospitals in the emirate including Johns Hopkins and Cleveland Clinic of the United States. The announcement of the agreement comes on the heels of the finalization in June of the US$ 70 million acquisition of Asia Renal Care which added over 70 clinics to the Bumrungrad International family in six countries including Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore.
