PTT Promotes New Generation On Energy Conservation

Bangkok--27 Jun--PTT Today, June 27, 2007, at PTT Head Office, Mr. Chaivat Churitti, Senior Executive Vice President of Oil Business Group — PTT Public Company Limited (PTT), chaired the opening ceremony of “The Generation P Energy Conservation Camp”. The Camp, which will be held between June 27 to 29, 2007 at Princess Sirinthorn Medicinal Plant Garden in Rayong Province, is organized to provide knowledge and understanding toward energy, sources of supply, and benefits of energy as well as to create consciousness on wise energy consumption amongst the youth. Those joining this year’s Generation P Camp are the teams who earlier submitted their energy conservation plans (or the proposed “School Energy Conservation Project”) and being selected by PTT. The year 2007 is the Generation P’s 10th anniversary, and out of more than 100 School Energy Conservation Projects submitted, 20 Projects were selected by qualified committees. The youth of about 100 people (each of the 20 Projects consists of 4 youth and a counseling teacher in a team) will participate in the 3 days and 2 nights Energy Camp. The youth will be visiting PTT’s Rayong Gas Separation Plant and learning about “the country’s energy outlook and the trend of alternative fuels in Thailand”. The participants will then join the activities at Princess Sirinthorn Medicinal Plant Garden located in Mabkha, Nikompattana District, Rayong Province. The youth will have a chance to learn about more than 260 rare herbs so they can realize the importance of surrounding nature and environment. The Camp will also provide the youth direct experience on energy conservation through interesting activities at the Municipal Office of Rayong Province as well as at Mab Ta Phut Community. After the Generation P Energy Conservation Camp, the 20 teams will be required to share their energy-saving knowledge gained from the Camp to their friends in school and neighborhood. Meanwhile, they will be competing in “the School Energy Conservation Competition” in which the proposed projects must be put into practice for six months, and the report progress must be submitted to PTT once a month. PTT will evaluate and award the 3 winning teams of which the winner will be awarded Baht 50,000 and the plaque from PTT; the runner up will be awarded Baht 30,000 with the plaque; and the third prize winner will received Baht 10,000 award with the plaque from PTT as well. Moreover, the youth of the winning teams will be eligible for the enrollment to Khon Kaen University’s Engineering Department too.
