Bangkok--6 Jul--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) together with the Thai Investors Association and the “Put Your Money to Work through Mutual Fund” project has invited leading fund management companies to share their ideas on savings management and fund investment at the Mutual Fund Fair to be held during July 7 - 8 at the SET Building in Bangkok. “SET is determined to create a financial management and investment culture with high integrity. The promotion of mutual fund investment is an important step in helping Thais plan their finance and investment properly and in accord with their personal financial aspirations, while leaving them a savings option superior to simply depositing money in commercial banks,” SET Executive Vice President Mr. Vichate Tantiwanich said. Investors have been increasing their use of mutual funds, lifting the funds’ net asset value (NAV) from THB 392.87 billion (approx. USD 11.35 billion) in 2001 to THB 1,040.70 billion (approx. USD 30.08 billion) in 2006 - a 164.89% rise. And as of June 29, 2007, the NAV was THB 1,472.96 billion, up by 41.53% on the same time last year, Association of Investment Management Companies Chairman Mr. Maris Tarab noted. “Thais now recognize mutual funds as an important option in savings management, because of their unique features and their ability to respond well to the demands of people of all ages, who have a multitude of financial objectives, levels of acceptable risk and preferred financial instruments. Furthermore, mutual funds can adapt flexibly to ongoing financial innovation,” Mr. Maris stated.
