Bangkok--18 Jul--Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers Thousands of children are set to benefit from the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers’ “Mini Marathon for UNICEF,” a fund-raising activity that will benefit UNICEF immunization projects in the Asia Pacific region. The “Mini Marathon for UNICEF” will be held as part of UNICEF’s Check Out for Children Challenge on Sunday, September 2nd, 2007 at Suan Luang Lor 9. The race is set to start at 6:00 am, following registration. The 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-place runners will receive trophies and prizes, such as a 2-night stay at Sheraton Hua Hin Spa & Resort. Every participant who completes the 10 km run will receive a medal (first 300 persons). There are three divisions: Junior race (under 18 years), Open race (18-40 years), Senior race (40 years up). The UNICEF Check Out for Children Challenge is an annual fundraising challenge among staff at Starwood Hotels and Resorts. Each year the challenge goes from strength to strength, and this year the fundraising target for the Asia Pacific region is US$90,000. Funds raised by Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers will assist UNICEF to immunize thousands of children in the Asia Pacific region. More than 30,000 children die every day, mostly from preventable diseases. Thanks to Starwood Hotels efforts in 2006, UNICEF has worked to immunize vulnerable children in Myanmar, Mongolia, and Bangladesh. The registration fee for the Mini Marathon for UNICEF is Baht 299.
