Honda in Thailand increases exports by 20% in first half of 2007

Bangkok--2 Aug--Aziam Burson-Marsteller Exports projected to exceed 95,000 million baht by year-end Asian Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Honda’s Bangkok-based Asia & Oceania Regional Headquarters, has announced that even with the steep appreciation of the Baht, Honda exports from Thailand in the first half of 2007 have still exceeded expectations with a total value of 48,712 million baht, or a 20% increase over the same period last year. Honda expects its export value for the full year to exceed 95,000 million baht. “Overall export growth was driven in part by the strong performance of automobile exports, which grew by 25% to 31,219 million baht,” said Mr. Tatsuhiro Oyama, President and CEO for Asian Honda Motor Co., Ltd. “In addition, we had solid growth in our motorcycle exports, which were up 17% to 10,798 million baht over the same period last year. We are confident that our exports in the second half of 2007 will meet the target volume as planned.” Automobile CBU and CKD kits make up 64% of total Honda exports from Thailand; followed by motorcycle CBU and CKD kits, which account for 22%; power products with 11%; and other items such as spare parts and accessories with 3%. In the first half of 2007, automobile CBU exports increased 34% by volume from 28,018 units to 37,554 units. Among all Honda automobile models, Civic is the best selling export model with 9,381 units followed by CR-V with 9,191 units and City with 8,817 units. Much of this growth is due to the strong acceptance of Honda Thailand’s products from customers in Australia. Total automobile CBUs exported to Australia increased 68% by volume from 14,570 units to 24,538 units. Honda motorcycles are exported to over 30 countries all over the world, mainly to Europe and ASEAN as major target markets. In the first half of 2007, motorcycle CBU exports increased 15% by value, with a major contribution from the new release of the CBR 125 in Europe. In addition, significant growth of 18% by value was registered in CKD kits due to market expansion in ASEAN. Total export value of Honda motorcycle CBU and CKD kits in the first half of 2007 reached 10,798 million baht. Exports of Honda power products including multi-purpose engines and spare parts also enjoyed a solid increase in the first half of 2007. The volume increased by 8% to 897,457 units and the value increased by 4% to 5,306 million baht. Honda is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of mobility with advanced technologies.
