The estimated demand of electricity in Malaysia is expected to grow at the rate of 6.3% per year until 2010. The Government is planning to have 30% of electricity, over the next decade, generated through hydropower to reduce the adverse effects of fossil fuel use. Together with the Government’s rural electrification programme, investment in the Malaysian power generation and transmission & distribution sectors is estimated at around US$11 billion over the next few years.
