กรุงเทพฯ--7 ส.ค.--Marriott Resorts & Spas Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa presents the MLA Black Box Culinary Challenge in Thailand on September 8 — 9, 2007. The competition is endorsed by the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) Since 1996, Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) has successfully organized more than 60 Black Box Competitions in Asia and The Middle East. Three Regional finals have been held in Singapore 2000, Kyoto Japan 2002, and Gold Coast Australia 2005. The next Global Final is scheduled in Dubai in May 2008 with teams from Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe and USA set to participate. The main purpose of the MLA Black Box Culinary Challenge is to encourage young professional talented chefs to perform and compete within a team environment with the aim of demonstrating the quality and versatility of Australian red meat and other high quality food ingredients to the international foodservice sector. In addition, they are provided with the unique opportunity to present their skills, dedication and passion in a “Hands-on” outside catering situation. The MLA Black Box Culinary Challenge event targets 10 — 16 teams from Bangkok’s leading hotels and restaurants. Each team consists of a Team Chef / Manager and three young Chef de Parties. On day 1, they are presented with a mysterious Black Box which contains identical sponsored ingredients. They then have one hour to devise a 3-course menu comprising — appetizer, main course and dessert. They take the black box away to prepare their menu entries for the competition judging and subsequently to be served to guests the next day (day 2) at a specially arranged gala dinner for 200 guests attended by VIP’s, the trade, chefs and the media. The judging of the competition is based on taste, skill, creativity and artistic merit. Gold, silver and bronze medals, cash prizes and special awards are given for Best Appetizer, Main Course, Dessert and Table Presentation. The Winning Team from the 5th MLA Black Box Culinary Challenge to be held in Thailand is then invited to compete against 22 other countries in the Global Final to be held in Dubai, May 2008.
