The Sky-rocketing Global Oil Prices Pushe Local Retail Up By 40 Satang

ข่าวทั่วไป Friday August 31, 2007 18:17 —PRESS RELEASE LOCAL

Bangkok--31 Aug--PTT Mr. Chaivat Churitti, Senior Executive Vice President of PTT Public Company Limited (PTT)’s Oil Business Group, revealed that after PTT had decreased its retail oil prices for 5 consecutive times (combined reduction of about Baht2 per liter) between mid of July to August 9, 2007, the recent global oil prices have shot up drastically since late last week. The price of Dubai Crude was up by US$1.51/barrel to US$67.81/barrel; ULG95 increased by US$3.12/barrel to US$79.21; and diesel rose by US$2.83/barrel to US$84.17/barrel. The rising oil prices was largely due to refineries in the US shut down for maintenance which brought about 750,000 — 1,100,000 million barrel/day shrinkage in supplies. Also, the Mainland China will be reducing its gasoline export (in September) by 60% due to higher domestic demand after its local automobile sales rose 23.7% during the first 7 months this year, and the other factor is the higher demand of diesel in Vietnam and Taiwan. As a result, domestic retail prices were forced to be adjusted amid the current low average marketing margin at only 80 satang per liter (the appropriate marketing margin should be about Baht1.5 per liter). Therefore, PTT has considered revised retail oil prices in all product categories up by 40 satang per liter. To be effective 05.00 hours of September 1, 2007, the retail oil prices in Bangkok and the nearby provinces are as follows: Unit : Baht/LiterGasoline PTT Gasohol 95 Plus 25.29 (Baht3.5 cheaper than Gasoline 95)Gasoline PTT Gasohol 91 Plus 24.49 (Baht3.5 cheaper than Gasoline 91)Gasoline PTT Alpha X 95 28.79Gasoline PTT Alpha X 91 27.99PTT Bio Diesel / Palm Diesel 25.04 (70 Satang cheaper than Diesel)High Speed Diesel PTT Delta X Euro III 25.74 Mr. Chaivat added that despite the upward price revision, the prices of Gasohol 91 and 95 are still more attractive since they are Baht3.50 cheaper than Gasoline 91 and 95. At present, gasohol has gained higher popularity, and PTT would like to urge the non-gasohol users to switch to Gasohol 91 or 95 because automobile manufacturers, Automobile Association, and PTT guarantee the quality of PTT Gasohol in more than 1,200 PTT Service Stations throughout the country.
