Bangkok--5 Sep--BrandComm Consultants IBM Joins Hands with the Public Sector to Launch ‘IBM EX.I.T.E Camp: Young “Global” THINK’ Strengthening Knowledge in Computers, Science, Technology and Environmental preservation responsibility for Thai Female Students IBM Thailand Co Ltd in cooperation with the Rangsit Science Center for Education and the Bangkok Children’s Discovery Museum are launching the “IBM EX.I.T.E Camp 2007” project to take place from 22-26 October 2007. The project aims to increase knowledge in computers, science and technology to Thai female students studying in secondary schools, implant environmental preservation responsibility, and facilitate students in creating problem solving ideas with the concept, Young “Global” THINK. Manager of the Marketing Department for IBM Thailand, Mr. Kittipong Wichaidit, said: “The “IBM EX.I.T.E Camp 2007” project is a continuing project which has been organized for the third time this year with cooperation from several sources such as the public sector, schools, teachers, parents and students from the many schools participating in the project. “IBM EX.I.T.E Camp 2007” aims to inspire and persuade female students to study computers, science and technology in order to increase the level of human resources available in these fields for Thailand in the future.” “In 2007, IBM has been cooperating with the Rangsit Science Center for Education and the Bangkok Children’s Discovery Museum to create activities including providing information in science, technology and English during the five day project. This year, the “IBM EX.I.T.E Camp 2007” project is being launched with the concept Young “Global” THINK that also aims to impart a sense of responsibility regarding environmentalism and conservation. IBM would like to hear the new generation’s ideas that can be applied effectively to help save our planet. IBM is proud to be a part of this educational and environmental project created for the benefit of Thai youths,” said Mr. Wichaidit. The “IBM EX.I.T.E Camp 2007: Young “Global” THINK is the first project happen in Thailand offering an opportunity to female students studying in secondary schools to learn new aspects of science and to encourage them to consider pursuing the study of science and technology, which are important fields for the country’s development, and providing opportunities for future careers. During five day project, students will attend lectures given by experienced lecturers, conduct laboratory experiments, and visit places to conduct environmental activities with the concept Young “Global” THINK, which means to create ideas that will help save our planet. Mr. Suranant Supawannagit, Director of Rangsit Science Center, said, “The Rangsit Science Center for Education is pleased to cooperate with IBM in conducting this project. With permanent exhibition zones, planetariums and laboratories, the center is considered a valuable source of information and educational activities relating to science, technology, natural science and astronomy, which occur in the “IBM EX.I.T.E Camp 2007” project. We hope that there will be many interested students joining the project.” Mrs. Sujitra Wutthithamrong, Managing Director of the Bangkok Children’s Discovery Museum, said, “The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration handed the responsibility for the museum to the Bangkok Children’s Discovery Museum Foundation, which will undertake the task of providing an effective and high-quality learning experience for children. The museum is the right place for the “IBM EX.I.T.E Camp 2007” project.
