Bangkok--18 Sep--Aziam Burson-Marsteller Australia’s low fares airline Jetstar has launched value based long haul international services into Malaysia, offering direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Sydney 3 times weekly. The launch of the new international route for the Qantas Group represents Jetstar’s 8th long haul market following its successful introduction of these value based international services in November 2006. Jetstar was named the World’s Best Low Cost Airline for 2007 by SkyTrax as part of their annual World Airline Survey. Jetstar Flight JQ65 from Sydney arrived into Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) this evening with major celebrations hosted by Malaysia Airports Berhad and its Managing Director Mr Dato Seri Bashir Ahmad. Inbound and departing Jetstar passengers at KLIA on the carrier’s inaugural Kuala Lumpur-Sydney services were also greeted by Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Mr Alan Joyce and the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia HEMs Penny Williams. Jetstar’s initial long haul fleet of six Airbus A330-200 aircraft (303 seat configured) will fly the route and offer two classes of service, Economy and StarClass, Jetstar’s business class. The wholly owned subsidiary of Qantas will become the Qantas Group’s launch customer for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft accepting 15 B787-8 aircraft from August 2008 as its future long haul fleet. Jetstar CEO Alan Joyce said the airline continued to take a price leadership position in international leisure markets for Qantas offering choice for international travellers. “We can offer low, market leading fares by achieving and maintaining the best cost base of all international carriers operating in Australia, replicating our existing cost leadership position in our own domestic market,” Mr Joyce said. “Jetstar is committed to offering very competitive fares on the Kuala Lumpur — Sydney route.” Celebrating Jetstar’s new Sydney-Kuala Lumpur services, special web fares are now available at Jetstar.com from MYR 388# one way and StarClass at MYR 1888# one way. Travel must originate from Kuala Lumpur and is exclusive of surcharges, fees and taxes of MYR 409.50. The sale will end at 22:00 hours Monday 10 September 2007 (Malaysian time) unless seats sell out prior. Sale fares are for the travel period 1 May 2008 — 21 June 2008 and are subject to availability. “The launch of Jetstar international flights directly between Sydney and Malaysia is a very positive development for the Qantas Group, bringing more choice to international long haul air travel as one of two strong brands for the future of Qantas,” Mr Joyce said. “We are well placed over the next four years, as the fastest growing international carrier operating to and from Australia, to offer a significant international network to a large number of Australian and overseas destinations through expansion achieved with our future B787 fleet.” Mr Joyce said its commercial agreement with Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad included the airline operating into the main international terminal at KLIA. “Jetstar has worked closely with Malaysia Airports who have developed a satisfactory commercial agreement, including choice of terminal to support our launch today of value based international flights into KLIA,” Mr Joycesaid. “Our Australia — Malaysia flights, unlike one of our future competitors, will operate into main international terminals at major gateway airports offering passengers more comfort, greater convenience and vastly superior connectivity opportunities.” As the second largest source of visitors to Australia from South East Asia and a key regional and economic partner, the Australia-Malaysia route represents a growing international travel market. Between 2000 and 2006 Australian resident travel to Malaysia soared 24 per cent, including a 5 per cent rise to 168,000 Australians visitors to Malaysia last year. (Source: Australian Bureau of Statistics) Malaysian resident travel to Australia during 2007 has already risen an impressive 8 per cent against the prior year after 150,000 Malaysian residents travelled to Australia during 2006. (Source: ABS) StarClass on Jetstar international routes will bring business class service with an international economy fare. This includes extended legroom and a wider seat with in-seat power, video on demand, priority check-in and boarding and access to lounges. Other features for Jetstar international passengers include a Qantas code share arrangement on all flights, connectivity of passengers and their luggage between Jetstar international services and Qantas international and Qantas domestic services in Australia as well as seamless through check-in. Jetstar made a significant contribution towards the Qantas Group’s record 2007 financial year result, with its A320 operations achieving Profit Before Tax (PBT) of A$112 million, a four fold increase on the prior year supported by stronger revenues, lower operational costs and total passengers carried across its total network rising 31.8 per cent to over7.6 million. Jetstar international long haul services contributed a pre-tax profit of A$3 million (excluding start up costs) during the 2007FY ending 30 June 2007. Jetstar offers a “Double the Difference” Voucher Guarantee to help enshrine the airline’s ongoing commitment to low fares leadership online through Jetstar.com. Jetstar’s Voucher Guarantee applies to most international and all Australian domestic routes within the carrier’s network. “Any customer who finds a lower fare online against a Jetstar international flight on the same long haul city pair (e.g. Sydney — Kuala Lumpur), on the same date of travel when compared with an available Jetsaver fare, our airline will double the difference in a Jetstar voucher, when the Jetstar fare is purchased,” Mr Joyce said. “Vouchers can be used towards future travel booked with Jetstar and enquiries can be made through Jetstar Telephone Reservations in Malaysia on Tel: 1800 813 090.” Jetstar every day Economy fares for travel originating from Malaysia are available at Jetstar.com from 850 MYR# one way and StarClass at MYR 2675# one way exclusive of surcharges, fees and taxes of MYR 409.50.
