Ask govt to push more criterions on imported shrimps Worried of residue problems, affected Thai shrimp industry

Bangkok--21 Sep--Thai Shrimp Association Somsak Paneetatyasai, President of Thai Shrimp Association revealed that at the moment some shrimp producers in Asia have faced a problem of rejection of their orders due to the problem of residues such as Nitrofuran and others. Importantly, these countries or producers are trying to export their products to many markets including Thailand to re-process and/or re-export in the name of new sources of countries as well as Thailand. This might affect the image of Thai shrimp industry, damage to Thai shrimp farmers, and be dangerous of consumers. The president also added that shrimp products from Thailand are well accepted in the world markets which products contain high quality where farms in closed system, is reached the raising standard of CoC and GAP, and producers concern on the friendliness environment. In addition, shrimp products can be traced back through all production and further processes under the control of Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. “We request government agencies to solve the problem immediately. And if it is possible, please try to check on all lots of shrimp products because suffered packers are attempting to find their way outs in re-exporting or re-processing their products to many countries and Thailand.
