Bangkok--8 Oct--Patravadi Theatre Patravadi Theatre Theatre Photography Workshop by Beat Presser 6 — 11 November 2007 (Workshop conducted in English) Beat Presser (http://www.beatpresser.com) is a professional photographer from Switzerland. Born in 1952 in Basel, Switzerland, he studied in Photography and worked as cameraman in Basel, Paris and New York. He was editor of photo magazines Palm Beach News and The Village Cry. From 1980, he had close cooperation with the actor Klaus Kinski and the movie director Werner Herzog. Currently, the freelance photographer/filmmaker produces photographic stories and exhibitions, which are shown all over the world. During his stay at Patravadi Theatre Beat Presser will exhibit his photographic work ?Oasis of Silence? on Theravada Buddhism, at the Theatre’s gallery in Bangkok. His art book with the same title, was published in English and Thai in a special Thailand edition, will be launched on this occasion. The Swiss Embassy and the Patravadi Theatre take the opportunity of Beat Presser's presence, to organize a workshop on Theatre Photography. Beat Presser has held many such workshops for colleagues over the past years in all corners of the world. His experience is highly sought and valued by photographers worldwide. Theatre Photography Workshop For professional photographers and people that work in theatre who have an interest in learning more about theatre photography and that like to explore new ideas in the field of theatre photography as well as its pre- and postproduction. The course will teach on: - General introduction by Beat Presser - Each photographer presents some of their own work to the other participants - Looking and studying documents and the work of different theatre photographers (Volksheater Vienna. Theatre du Soleil, Paris. Malandro Theatre Group Columbia, Schauspielhaus Basel and others) - Looking at the difference between Still photography on Filmsets and Theatre Photography. Analysing some film documents. - How to prepare a shooting. Material. Reading the script/play. Psychology. - How to work on the Theatre Set and document a play. The location. The director. The technicians. The actors. Observations the set. - Photography on the set. Backstage Photography. Documenting the stars and the making of the play. - Should a photographer develop his own style? or document only what everyone else can see? - Postproduction with the material shot during the workshop: How to archive the work/ How to publicize the photographs etc. Location + Schedule: Studio 1, Patravadi Theatre, 6 November — 11 November 2007 6 Nov (Tue) 7-10pm 7 Nov (Wed) 7-10pm 8 Nov (Thu) 7-10pm (No workshop, but students shall attend the opening and the multi-media presentation of OASIS OF SILENCE) 9 Nov (Fri) 7-10pm (Dining Theatre.
