Bangkok--19 Oct--The Japan Foundation Ancient characters imitate pictures of things we see in our daily life, then they developed to the characters we use nowadays. Ms. Nakatani studies the art of ancient calligraphy and creates art work that combines calligraphy and contemporary art. Eight works that will be exhibited in this exhibition are “Six Greatnesses and Colors” “Dancing Trees” “Black and White” “Man and Woman in Consciousness” “Man and Woman in Notion” “Negative and Positive in Harmony” “Four Seasons” and “Underneath”Message from the artist It is said that ancient characters contained the scenery of that age in the characters themselves. The ancient characters were not merely ‘symbols’, or a means of communication to convey each human mind to another, but were also used in ancient times for divination to ask the Will of God by the sacred King. Although existence of my body has been in this modern world, I have always had a secret desire that I would revive the spirits of a few thousand years ago in this world through ‘Sho’ (calligraphy), transcending time and space. Facing a white paper, my body and soul together will be concentrated into my hand holding a brush and I will completely draw in my breath having a mental image on the character to be drawn. ‘Sho’ (calligraphy) is said to be the instantaneous figurative art. I have been fascinated with ‘Buddhism and Colors’ for a few years. Both themes have profound meanings and are difficult ones to be completely understood. However, I could fortunately find in them many themes I have tried to draw. In this exhibition, besides works of Ancient Characters, I have displayed my works drawn from Buddhism Words using Thai letters, “Six Greatnesses ?Land, Water, Fire, Wind, Space, and Consciousness.”OpeningThursday 8th November 2007 at 18:00 pm.DurationThursday 8th — Thursday 29th November 2007Mon — Fri 09:00 — 19:00Sat 09:00 — 17:00 (Closed on Sunday)VenueThe Japan Foundation, Bangkok Art Space (Tel: 0-2260-8560~4) For more information contact Ampushinee ([email protected])
