Bangkok--22 Oct--WEBER SHANDWICK Deutsche Bank has helped Baan Pak Moo School construct a computer centre for children in Nong Khai province in northeast Thailand. Besides funding building work, Deutsche Bank has also contributed 20 computers. Previously, the school had only one computer which was used by teachers. Now, the centre’s 20 computers and facilities will be shared among five schools in the Nong Khai province and will benefit more than 400 children. These children, aged between ten and twelve and in grades four to six, will attend computer courses conducted over 20 weeks. To mark the official handover of the computer centre, an education fun fair was held at Baan Pak Moo School on 1 September 2007. Several hundred students from the five schools were at the fair. Also attending the fair were more than 30 local Deutsche Bank staff members. Mr Suranit Sorasuchart, Chief Operating Officer at Deutsche Bank Thailand, officially handed over the computer centre. He said: “Information technology is not only a study tool; it also connects these children globally and changes the way they see the world. We are proud to be part of this development and we believe this is only the beginning.” Mr Rags Raghavan, Deutsche Bank’s Chief Country Officer in Thailand added: “Deutsche Bank is committed to supporting communities in Thailand and is involved in a wide range of projects including funding the support of groups of HIV/AIDS affected orphans in northern Thailand and significant Tsunami relief projects. These include the reconstruction of schools, construction of homes and education and income generation projects.” The computer centre is an initiative by the Deutsche Bank Asia Foundation, the Bank’s broader regional philanthropic initiative which aims to provide financial assistance to community support programmes, with particular emphasis on education for underprivileged children in a number of countries throughout Asia where the Bank conducts business.
