Nokia launches IAC: Independent Artists Club and unveils 2 mobile devices optimized for music

Bangkok--25 Oct--Aziam Burson-Marsteller Nokia 5310 XpressMusic and Nokia 5610 XpressMusic Nokia today announced the rollout of the Independent Artists Club (IAC), a program to promote the discovery of homegrown music and talent from Thailand and Asia Pacific. Nokia also unveiled two new mobile devices specifically optimized for music: the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic and the Nokia 5610 XpressMusic. The devices offer dedicated music keys, expanded memory, large screens and extended battery performance. “With more than 200 million music-enabled devices currently in people’s hands across the world and plans to roll out music services as part of Ovi, the gateway to Nokia’s Internet services, Nokia is in an unique position to provide music-enabled devices and also offer consumers seamless musical enjoyment such as activities, Nokia Catalogs and the IAC to discover new and fresh music in the digital space,” said Mr. Vipul Sabharwal, General Manager, Customer and Market Operations, for Nokia (Thailand) Ltd. “Music is an important pillar of our Consumer Internet Services strategy, so it is essential for us to nurture the local music industry, which will ultimately be the catalyst for great local content to be discovered and appreciated by consumers,” added Mr. Sabharwal. “At IAC, artists will be invited to upload their tracks, and have those tracks rated, listened to and downloaded by music lovers. The artists that accumulate the most votes for their tracks on the IAC web site will be listed in the Nokia Independent Artists Club Chart, which will be distributed regularly to the media and industry. They will also be given the chance to perform at Nokia-sponsored events and concerts.” The Thailand site (www.nokia.co.th/iac) goes live on 2 Nov 2007. Supporting activities include contests, concerts, and a regular party at Stu-fe, Soi Farm Wattana, Rama 4 Road, with nine Thai indie artists: Frozen (Tum Sathapat Teeranitayapap); POP (Tong Montien Kaewkumnerd); Apartment Khun Pa (Tul Waitoonkiat); Bear Garden (June Somsiri Sangkaew); Scrubb (Muey Thawatphon Wongboonsiri); Seed (Norasate Mudkong); Stylish Nonsense (June Yuttana Kalambaheti); Futon (Gene Kasidit Samniang); and Kijjax (Kijjasak Triyanond). Nokia device owners can download up to 10 tracks per month for free, while non-Nokia device owners can download up to five tracks per month for free. To celebrate the launch, Nokia will launch the “Nokia IAC Stage (A3)” featuring performances by new talent winners from the Nokia Fat Circle contest.
