Bangkok--25 Oct--UNIS Bangkok BANGKOK (United Nations Information Services) — A special seminar on“Turmoil on Global Financial Markets: Will it be Contagious to Asia?” willbe held in Bangkok on 26 October 2007 at the United Nations ConferenceCentre. Jointly organized by the International Institute for Trade and Development(ITD), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) andthe United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific(UNESCAP), the seminar will serve as a forum for sharing views on therecent developments in global financial markets, and on measures for Asiato lessen or avoid the repercussions of a global financial turmoil. Heiner Flassbeck, Director of the Division on Globalization and DevelopmentStrategies of UNCTAD, Masato Abe, Officer-in-Charge, Investment andEnterprise Development Section, Trade and Investment Division of UNESCAP,and Sorajak Kasemsuvan, Executive Director of ITD will make presentationsat the seminar. Providing commentaries will be Shuvojit Banerjee, Economic Affairs Officer,Poverty and Development Division of UNESCAP.
