Bangkok--23 Nov--SET Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana has honored Maj. Gen. Samrerng Chaiyong for his outstanding work in sports development over 40 years. The Football History Association of Thailand chose Maj. Gen. Samrerng as the inaugural recipient of the Maj. Gen. Samrerng Chaiyong Award 2007. It is one of six honors that the SET Foundation gives to individuals or groups that have made an outstanding contribution to society. The Association selected Maj. Gen. Samrerng Chaiyong himself to receive this award because of his commitment to the football community over the past four decades. He is referred to as the Patriarch of Thai Football because of his sacrifice and determination in developing Thai football players, often without external funding. His efforts have produced a more systematic and efficient approach to the game and well-regarded national players. Maj. Gen. Samrerng was a co-founder of the Museum of Siam Football Teams (2006 — 2007), at Sanam Chan Palace, Nakorn Pathom province, and the Football History Association of Thailand. He has been a member of the Thai national football team, coach of Thai and German national youth teams, executive director of Thai Football Association, and head coach at the Royal Military College, Duntroon, Australia. In physical education, he is referred to as the Person of National Physical Education. SET Foundation’s Social Recognition Project covers six fields - education, urban social development, rural social development, music, sports and library development.
