Shin Satellite Public Company Limited (“SATTEL”), Asia’s leading commercial satellite operator, announced that last month on February 27 the Company has signed two five-year contracts with Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (“MPT”) for the additional bandwidth capacities on Thaicom 4 (IPSTAR) broadband satellite and on Thaicom 5 satellite for a total contract value of US$5 million.
According to the contracts, MPT will expand the bandwidth capacity on Thaicom 4 (IPSTAR) bandwidth and C-band transponder on Thaicom 5 satellite for the expansion of its domestic and international telecommunications trunking network and IPSTAR broadband satellite service throughout the country.
Mr. Nuthapong Temsiripong, Country Manager— Myanmar, Shin Satellite Plc. said, “MPT is Shin Satellite’s very long time customer since 1998. It is also IPSTAR’s National Service Operator (NSO) since 2005 to deploy IPSTAR broadband satellite services throughout Myanmar. Currently some 2,500 User Terminals have been provided. These expansion contracts demonstrate the continued confidence in IPSTAR technology and the strong relationship between the two companies and the two countries.”
“MPT and IPSTAR have jointly appointed five service providers including GlobalNet, MMG Technologies, Myanmar World Distribution, NetStar and MaxiNet to help provide retail IPSTAR services in Myanmar. The expansion IPSTAR bandwidth will enhance MPT’s broadband satellite services nationwide, especially for Voice-over-IP (VoIP) applications”, added by Nuthapong.
