Bangkok--10 Mar--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and many other organizations are co-hosting the fifth annual Capital Market for Students program during the summer school break. Agencies involved include Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Federation of Thai Capital Market Organizations (FeTCO), listed companies, brokerages, investment management firms and charitable organizations. Over the past four years, the program attracted 25,000 students and, this year, there are still vacancies at 25 listed firms. The summer break is a good time for university and high school students to gain work-experience or make a social contribution. The project’s practical orientation will prepare some for a profession in the capital market and give them confidence. With the cooperation of listed companies, securities firms and investment management firms, participating students can become familiar with the Thai capital market, SEC Secretary-General Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala said. The program is a great opportunity for capital market organizations to demonstrate social responsibility towards youth development. Their collaboration has strengthened each year, with more companies participating and with some organizing their own summer programs - which is particularly appreciated, FeTCO Chairman Kongkiat Opaswongkarn noted. SET, which holds corporate social responsibility as one its key missions, coordinates the interns’ participation and anticipates about 5,000 students being involved this year. Each year about 120 organizations support Capital Market for Students, SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai reported. “Besides acting as an application center for students and a dissemination point for participating organizations, the Exchange provides allowances to students who choose to do their internship at one of the 13 charitable organizations. It is a good opportunity for students to gain income, obtain valuable experience and contribute to society,” Ms. Patareeya added. Other activities for young people hosted by capital market organizations include SET’s Thai Chess Training and Workshop and the Thai Investors Association’s New Investors Program, which each draw about 300 students annually. Listed companies participating in Capital Market for Students include Bangkok Bank PCL, Krungthai Card PCL and Siam Cement Group PCL, whose programs have already started.
