Bangkok--13 Mar--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) is urging listed companies to become familiar with the details of FTSE SET Index Series (FTSE SET), such as constituent selection criteria and calculation methods. SET is keen that market participants are able to use the series effectively for portfolio management. To help achieve these aims, the Exchange is hosting a public seminar on FTSE SET Index Series on Mar. 14, from 8:30 — 12:00 hrs., at the Prof. Sangvian Indaravijaya Auditorium, SET Building. SET and FTSE International have selected the FTSE SET’s constituents and full information will be available in April this year, SET Senior Vice President Santi Kiranand, Ph.D. revealed. The series’ securities selection and calculation is based on FTSE’s approach, which employs liquidity and free-float screening criteria. Consequently, the series will be comprised of liquid stocks and be attractive to investors. “As well as offering the Thai capital market and listed companies with another product, FTSE SET will provide more exposure to international markets. Large companies included in FTSE SET Large Cap Index will become better known and smaller firms, in FTSE SET Mid Cap and FTSE SET Small Cap Indices, will also benefit. Index reference will produce an increase in investment and liquidity for small and medium companies. “Listed firms should learn more about how FTSE SET varies from SET50 and SET100 indices. For example, while FTSE SET selects constituents by trading volume, the existing indices prefer trading value. There’s also a difference in free-float criteria,” Mr. Santi added. This series will provide another underlying index for new financial products and so contribute to the market’s product variety and general attractiveness. Instruments, such as exchange-traded funds, index-linked funds and derivatives, can use the FTSE SET Index as their underlying benchmark. FTSE SET is comprised of six indices. There will be one tradable index—FTSE SET Large Cap (30 large cap. stocks)—and five benchmark indices—FTSE SET Mid-Cap (liquid stocks representing 90% of total market cap.), FTSE SET Small Cap (liquid stocks representing 98% of total market cap.), FTSE SET All Shares (liquid stocks covering FTSE Large Cap, Mid Cap, Small Cap), FTSE SET Mid/Small Cap (stocks covering FTSE Mid and Small Cap) and FTSE SET Fledgling (small cap stocks representing 2% of total market cap). Experts speaking at Friday’s seminar are TISCO Securities Co., Ltd. Executive Chairman Paiboon Nalinthrangkurn, PTT PCL Executive Vice President-Corporate Finance Penchan Charikasem and MFC Asset Management PCL Executive Vice President Supakorn Soontornkit. The seminar moderator will be Santi Kiranand.
