Bangkok--2 May--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) hosted an awards ceremony for the short-story competition, Haa Dai, Chai Pen (Know How to Earn, Know How to Spend), which promotes a culture of smart saving and investment among youth and the general public. This is the contest’s fourth year of operation, and it received an overwhelming response, with 560 pieces of work received from all over Thailand and 48 pieces collecting awards. “The promotion targets new groups of potential quality investors and extends SET’s educational outreach strategy,” SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai said. The competition promotes new writers and creative literary works, many of which, when published as booklets, will teach readers about personal financial planning through Sufficiency Economy. This concept aims to bring about the physical, mental and financial health that are essential for sustainable personal balance and stability, the Project Committee Chairman Maruey Phadoongsidhi, said. These works will enlighten many children about the importance of a balanced life and wise spending and saving. It would be great if people could realize that savings form a foundation for growth, the Judging Committee Chairman Kamsing Srinok (alias “Lao Kam Hom”) said. Haa Dai, Chai Pen is a SET-initiated project that has received generous support from leading publishers, including Amarin Printing and Publishing PCL, Nanmee Books Co., Ltd., Nation Multimedia Group PCL, and Matichon PCL. The competition is divided into five categories: 1) junior high school (M.1-M3), 2) high school (M.4-M.6) and vocational education, 3) university and higher vocational education, 4) teachers and instructors and 5) the general public. The total value of the awards is more than THB 1 million and the winners’ host institutions receive a plaque of honor and a mini-SET Corner. The Exchange has compiled all award-winning short stories into two books: 1) Kamphaeng Med Sai (The Wall of Sand), featuring tales from teachers and instructors; high, vocational, and junior high school categories, and 2) Saeng Chai Haeng Sai Lom (The Shining Light of the Wind), featuring narratives from the general public, university and higher vocational education categories.
