Bangkok--21 Jul--DTAC dtac gained 777,000 net new customers in Q2 2008, bringing the total customer base to 17.4 million. Total service revenues in the second quarter were at 16.63 billion baht, 4.2% higher than the same period last year. Excluding interconnect revenues, service revenues grew by 4.6%. New customers and a 44% increase in revenues from value added service, fuelled by a significant increase in usage of mobile internet, were the main factors behind the growth. EBITDA, excluding the DPC settlement, grew 16.6% driven by higher revenues and lower net interconnection cost. The EBITDA margin was at 32.1%, up from 28.7% in Q2 2007. Net profit, excluding the DPC settlement, increased 54% to 2.1 billion baht. On May 30 2008, dtac concluded a settlement with DPC for an amount of 3 billion baht, translating into a net gain of 2.4 billion baht before tax. Net profit, including the settlement, came in at 3.9 billion baht. CEO Sigve Brekke said Q2 was not only characterised by the normal weak seasonality but also overall weak economic sentiment. The company revised its full year guidance to mid single-digit revenue growth from previously 5-10%. “We believe we have maintained our market share in terms of customers, despite our focus on improving the interconnect balance. On the negative side increasing inflation and declining consumer confidence and business sentiment have had an adverse impact on volumes, but we are implementing various measures to counter the impact of the volume decline.” dtac is the second largest mobile operator in Thailand. dtac is listed on Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX).
