Bangkok--29 Aug--CPF Adirek Sripratak, President and CEO, Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF) says after the World Trade Organisation’s top court affirmed its ruling against US anti-dumping duties on imports of shrimp case, it was a good news for overall shrimp industry since it will increase the competitiveness of Thai shrimp products in the US, due to the cost of export decreases. Moreover, The Department of Commerce of the United States has just announced the new anti-dumping duties which cause Thailand to pay duties from 6.05% to 3.18%. “The WTO ruling will benefit CPF as it gives the company more opportunities to increase sales in the U.S., causing the total shrimp exports to overseas which are forecast at 40,000 tonnes this year, compares to 34,000 tonnes last year.” He adds The overall Thai shrimp exports are expected to stand at 400,000 tonnes this year comparing to 350,000 tonnes last year, giving 80,000 million baht increase or approximately 15% growth. The US is Thailand's biggest market for shrimp, followed by Japan, the European Union, and Australia respectively.
