dtac gained 780,425 net new customers in Q3 2008, making its total customer base now stands at 18.2 million. Total Revenues in the third quarter increased by 2.3 % from the same period last year to 16.7 billion baht. Furthermore, dtac recorded an EBITDA of 5.1 billion baht during the quarter, growing by 12.4%, while net profit came in at 1.8 billion baht, 35% higher than the same period last year.
Chief Executive Officer Tore Johnsen said the third quarter had seen the effect of weak economic sentiment taking its toll on consumer confidence and spending. In addition, the flood in many areas of the country during the third quarter also had an adverse impact as seen from the slow down in net additional subscribers. The company, however, remains cautiously optimistic for the rest of the year and maintains its full year guidance of mid single-digit revenue growth and 30-32% EBITDA margin.
dtac is on track to launch the 3G service on 850 MHz frequency band as planned in the second quarter of 2009 and is now in the process of selecting a network equipment provider. Initial focus will be on wireless broadband service. The investment is estimated at 5.0 billion baht for nationwide coverage.
