Bangkok--7 Nov--Oasis Media Home Builder Association sets out 2 strategic targets in 2009 including the speeding up of its plan for construction standard development in order to upgrade industry standard both in operational and labor levels as well as inching up its market shares from sub-contractor segment. The Association also reveals that in 2008 the home building business will have a total market value of 9,800 MB, while it is expected that the value will increase to 10,500 MB in 2009 after the launch of its 3 main activities to stimulate the market in general. Mr. Panthep Thanchitikul, President of the Home Builder Association, reveals about the Association’s policy in 2009 that the Association will still emphasize on the upgrading of home building business standard so that it is widely accepted by general public. In this regard, the Association will direct its efforts through its 2 main strategies. First is the speeding up of professional upgrading, which the Association has drafted out a joint program with Don Muang Technical College to open an Associate Degree curriculum in Construction Techniques in order to create operational level specialists for the home building industry in 2008. In 2009, the Association will add in another development program for labor level in order to create skilled labor. In such program, the Association will give supports in both trainings and revenue generation in order to create motivation for people joining the work force. In addition, the Association will also give different kinds of knowledge with the hope to make home building industry an industry with high standard both in its management as well as in its construction. This will result in quality home construction and ultimately benefit the consumers. Currently, the Association is drafting out its operational plan and conducting a feasibility study, but it is expected that the program will be able to commence some time in 2009. Second is its policy for market expansion, where the Association aims to increase the consumer market share of home building companies. From available statistics collected by the Association, it is forecasted that consumer home building market in Bangkok and its vicinities in 2008 has a market value of 54,590 MB, while the home building companies has a market share of around 18% or 9,800 MB. The rest belongs to small contractors. In 2009, the Association believes that consumer home building market in Bangkok and its vicinities will have a total market value of 52,415 MB due to economic slowdown, while the Association is aiming to inch up its share to 20%, which is equal to a market value of 10,500 MB. ”We forecasted that property business in 2009 will slow down in general, which will also make home building market move in the same direction. Hence, we need to speed up our market expansion plan to compensate for the lower market value. We will push in various public relation activities and create a better understanding for ”home building business”. What does the term stand for? This will create confidence in our services and standards”.said Mr. Panthep Mr. Panthep further added that in the past the market share of home building companies is poised to grow year by year as witnessed from the good response received by the Association’s activities. In 2008, while most property development companies are experiencing declining purchasing power problems, the situation in consumer home building industry is just the opposite. There are continuous flows of demands in this market, especially in a recent Home Builder 2008 organized during August 20-24, 2008. The event registered on-site sales of 1,500 MB with 2.5-5 MB and 5-10 MB housing products as the two top selling ranges. The 3 main market expansion activities will include an exclusive event for the Association’s ordinary members at Central Plaza Ladprow during February 2009, the Association’s participation at Architect ’08 during May 2009, and Home Builder 2009 during August 2009. It is expected that the 3 activities will help create higher market awareness in consumer home building market and make the Home Building Association known to the general public.
