Q4 experienced continual growth reaching a total of 138 thousand units’ motorcycle registrations or a 10% increase compared to the same period last year. This was due to the positive consumer reaction to the PGM-FI system, especially when equipped in Family category bikes. This factor boosted growth by 14% while A.T. models are also experiencing growth with increased market share. These trends led AP Honda to decide to launch another PGM-FI model to activate market.
Teerapat Chivapong, Sales Director of A.P. Honda Co., Ltd., said the number of motorcycle registrations during October totaled 138,437 units, compared to 125,975 units last year, representing a 10% increase, or 12,462 units.
Thanks to the active sales season and cutting-edge technologies such as PGM-FI by leading bike makers, a new trend has been seen in the market which has received a positive feedback, especially the CZ-i 110 models that are now ranked 6th in the most recent monthly sales record starting on the 10th last month. This pushed Family motorcycles’ growth rate to 14% compared to the same period last year.
Seeing an opportunity in the A.T. motorcycle market, where share increased to 44% in October, A.P. Honda planned to promote the segment by launching another PGM-FI (Programmed Fuel Injection) model called “Air Blade i” early in November.
The details of all brands registrations in October were as follows: The Family category gained a 52% market share and sales of 71,695 units or 14% increased from the same period last year. A.T. motorcycles (Automatic Transmission) had sales of 61,479 units and a 44% market share representing a 7% increase. Family-sport models earned a 2% market share and sales of 3,434 units for a 13% decline. Sport models had a 1% market share with sales of 1,152 units resulting in an 8% increase, while other categories recorded sales of 677 units.
The accumulated registrations during the 10 months, from January to October this year totaled 1,462,043 units or a 7% increase compared to the same period last year. They can be categorized into Family models with a 52% market share, sales of 753,842 units or a 9% increase. A.T. motorcycles with a 45% market share and sales of 651,462 units representing a 5% increase. Family-sport models with a 3% market share and sales of 40,650 units or a 9% decline. Sport models with a 1% market share and sales of 9,736 units resulting in a 4% increase. Other categories with recorded sales of 6,353 units.
