This year marks the 150 year anniversary for the establishment of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Thailand, the foundation being the “Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation” signed in 1858 by H.M. King Frederik VII of Denmark, H.M. King Mongkut of Siam and H.M. King Pinklao of Siam.
“Relations between Thailand and Denmark are those of deep respect and friendship matured over many centuries. They are built on cooperation and mutual benefit. The 150 years anniversary celebrations will cement and reinforce the warm and cordial ties that exists between the Danish and Thai peoples, thus contributing to a further widening and deepening of commercial and tourist ties,” said the Ambassador of Denmark to Thailand H.E. Mr. Michael Sternberg.
To celebrate this extraordinary event, T.R.H. the Crown Prince couple of Denmark and H.E. the Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Per Stig M?ller, will be heading the largest-ever Danish business delegation to Thailand from the 24th to 27th November 2008, under the banner of Denmark and Danish business in Thailand 2008.
The visit of Their Royal Highnesses and His Excellency along with 33 leading Danish companies represented at the highest level will promote Denmark and Danish business in Thailand and will be an opportunity to both strengthen existing relations and forge new ones within the social, political, cultural and commercial spheres.
“Today around 200 Danish companies are benefitting from the economic ties and mutual understanding established over many years of excellent partnership and collaboration between Thais and Danes. This, in combination with the thriving business and economic environment, makes Thailand a very attractive place to do business for Danish companies,” added H.E. Mr. Michael Sternberg.
At the official opening of the celebrations T.R.H. the Crown Prince Couple of Denmark will visit the Danish Lifestyle Exhibition in Central World’s Forum Wing, which will exhibit Danish design and lifestyle products from the 24th to 26th November.
H.R.H. the Crown Prince of Denmark and H.E. the Minister for Foreign Affairs will, among other things, attend a large Thai-Danish Business Forum at the Bangkok Convention Centre (Centara Grand at Central World) on the 25th of November. One of the main attractions at this forum will be a large seminar focusing on how Danish technology can help solve some of the energy, climate and environmental problems facing Thailand and the rest of world today.
To mark the celebration of World Diabetes Day in Thailand on the 26th of November H.R.H. the Crown Princess of Denmark will make an excursion to a community medical unit and a school in Pathum Thani Province, which performs diabetes screening, prevention and treatment.
During their visit Their Royal Highnesses and His Excellency will also participate in various social events celebrating the longstanding relationship between the two countries and their peoples including a charity dinner on the 26th of November at the Ambassador of Denmark’s residence. Funds raised at this event will go towards improving awareness, prevention and treatment of diabetes in Thailand.
