Bangkok--19 Nov--Japan Foundation
The Japan Foundation, Bangkok, the faculty of Fine Arts, Bangkok University and Apex Group will jointly present a lecture and a film showing of a Japanese independent animation film maker, Taku FURUKAWA.
Taku Furukawa was born in 1941 at Mie prefecture, Japan. He worked part time for TCJ on TV anime while studying at collage and being an assistant to various independent animators including Kuri Yoji upon graduation, it was a bridge lead to his own independent debut.
He has a chance to write and direct his first animation film, Akatombo (Red Dragonfly), while being an apprentice at Kuri Yoji’s studio. It was premiere at the third annual Animation Festival in 1966. After that, he continues producing more than 20 short animation films by himself at his private studio founded in 1970 and his films won numerous prizes internationally, including the special jury's prize at Annecy. He has also left behind a large body of animated TV ads and shorts for NHK’s program, Minna no Uta.
This time, it’s a great opportunity for animation lovers in Bangkok to see his short animation works showing in theater for free. Selected works will be screened at Lido Theater 1 on 4th December 2008 at 18:30 p.m. with some Q&A session about independent animation scene in present Japan. Don’t miss this good chance.
