The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)’s fifth investment fair, SET in the City 2008, attracted over 70,000 visitors and registered more than 7,000 transactions. The event occurred during November 20 - 23 at the Siam Paragon Shopping Complex, Bangkok.
There were more than 3,000 transactions covering mutual funds, LTFs and RMFs totaling over THB 600 million (approx. US17 million).
“Visitors were keen to obtain financial information, consultancy and expert advice - and check out listed companies and investment institutions. Many returned to the event each day, reflecting their need for and awareness of the importance of investment information and education. SET in the City 2008 provided access to market specialists and updates on investment choices to enable them to make prudent, long-term investment decisions,” SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai said.
Participants liked the fair’s emphasis on information provision, while state and private agencies were delighted that most visitors came from their intended target groups.
The most popular activities were the seminars on investment techniques and tips for stocks, derivatives and bonds. The sessions, The new global crisis: will the Thai economy and stock market survive? by the Securities Analysts Association and theses How to make THB 10 million in 10 years by One Asset Management were very popular All in all, 15,000 people attended the event’s multiple seminars.
Expert analysis on offer dealt with the economic situation, investment options under current circumstances and various financial products. In addition, Thai Financial Planners Association provided advice on tax planning, personal financial management and tax calculation.
This year’s investment simulation game enabled new investors and others to test their understanding of investment. There were a total of eight rounds involving 60 contestants.
