In spite of a 3% fall in the November growth rate, aggregate sales for the first 11 months have grown 6% due to market acceptance of PGM-FI Tech
Due to the ongoing economic decline, the motorcycle market growth rate in November declined for the first time, after consecutive month-on-month growth since February. However, with support from the PGM-FI trend, the family category’s growth rate remains stable with a slightly lower number of registrations of 125 thousand units or a 3% decrease compared to the same period last year. The accumulated registrations during the first 11 months totaled 1.58 million units or a 6% increase compared to the same period last year.
Teerapat Chivapong, Sales Director of A.P. Honda Co., Ltd., said the number of motorcycle registrations during November totaled 125,323 units, compared to 129,608 units last year, representing a 3% decrease, or 4,285 units. This reflects the first reduction in growth since February 2008. The shrinking market was caused by the tight economy.
Based on the number of motorcycle registrations, the growth rate of every category, except the family category, decreased. The total registration number for family category during November was 63,651 units, which is slightly lower than last year’s 63,755 units.
Family category’s growth rate is stable thanks to the supporting trend of PGM-FI technology in its new models, especially the CZ-i 110, which is becoming more popular day by day. The CZ-i 110 is now ranked as the fifth best-seller up from sixth place in October. The stability of this category serves to support the overall market and making the growth rate decline only 3%.
The details of other categories in November were as follows: A.T. motorcycles (Automatic Transmission) had sales of 57,166 units representing a 6% decrease compared to the 60,835 units of the same period last year. Family-sport models faced an 18% decline with sales of 3,020 units when compared to the 3,698 units of the same period last year. Sport models and other categories recorded sales of 830 units and 656 units respectively.
The accumulated registrations during the 11 months, from January to November this year totaled 1,587,366 units or a 6% increase compared to the same period last year.
They can be categorized into Family models with a 51% market share, sales of 817,493 units or an 8% increase. A.T. motorcycles with a 45% market share and sales of 708,628 units representing a 4% increase. Family-sport models with a 3% market share and sales of 43,670 units or a 10% decline.
