Bangkok--6 Feb--Oasis Media Bosch reaffirms its leading position in technology innovation by investing more than 3.6 bn Euros in product researches and developments. In its attempts, the company aims to invent new technologies that contribute to better quality living as well as to support the use of renewable energy that helps reduce the green house effect. It also encourages students to invent by organizing “Bosch Innovation Contest 2008”, where winners will receive trophies as well as cash prizes worth more than Baht 280,000 totally, and now prepares to organize Bosch Innovation Contest 2009 in this coming September 2009, Mr. Jochen Reik , the Managing Director of Robert Bosch Co., Ltd., discloses about Bosch Innovation Contest 2008 under the theme of “Innovation for a better life” that the contest has received an overwhelming success and interest from students as well as education institutions. Though the filing period was brief, there were 34 projects entered into the contest from universities and colleges nationwide. Bosch Innovation Contest primarily aims to encourage teenagers to take interest to invent and develop new innovative products or technologies, which is in concert with Bosch’s policy to be a leader in innovative inventions. In the past, Bosch has continually given priority to researches and developments. In 2007, Bosch invest more than 3.6 bn Euros or 7.7% of its total sales in researches and developments. Automotive technology ranks first in researches and developments with a total investment of 2.8 bn Euros or an approximately 10% of its total sales. Its work force of more than 29,000 employees around the globe is the key driving force behind researches and developments, where success is measured by the number of patents filed, which is more than 3,000 in 2007. This figure makes Bosch the second largest company to file patent applications in Germany and, if considering automotive technology alone, Bosch is the World’s highest patent registrant. Bosch Group aims to develop technologies, which help prevent global warming, as well as environmental protection and natural resource conservation technologies. In automotive technology, after the much success of its hybrid project, Bosch has initiated its second project to study and develop highly efficient lithium-ion battery to be used in driving system motor. With the setting up of SB LiMotive GmbH, a joint venture (50:50) between Robert Bosch GmbH and Samsung SDI Co., Ltd., in September 2008, it is hoped that the company will be able to mass produce and commercially launch high efficient lithium-ion battery for automotive industry worldwide in 2011. Besides efficient use of energy, Bosch also conducts researches in renewable energy. In August 2008, Bosch Group has acquired a majority holding in Ersol Solar Energy GmbH, who is a developer, manufacturer and distributor of wafer-based silicon solar cells in Germany. This acquisition will help expand Bosch’s renewable energy business. In addition, Bosch Group also sets up a regional headquarter for advanced researches and engineering in Singapore to study technology and market trend, to discover technology leaders, as well as to conduct interesting research topics in the Asia-Pacific. The setting up of this research facility is a clear proof of Bosch’s commitment to this region. The facility has been conducting researches that better respond to the needs in the region and Thailand will definitely be able to reap the benefits from this stance. Mr. Jochen Reik finally concluded. As for Bosch Innovation Contest 2008, the screening committee has selected 6 projects to the final, namely 1. In addition, this contest will provide a good opportunity for teenagers to apply theories into actions as well as offer a real life experience to use new products and technologies from Bosch prior to their graduation. In this regard, it is believed that a project that supports and promotes students to spend their time wisely on activities based upon their basic curriculum will help stimulate students’ own knowledge and ability as well as upgrade local design and technology development competency to international level. To further this success, we are organizing the 2nd Bosch Innovation Contest again in this coming September 2009.” Mr.Jochen Reik said.
