dtac gained 2.9 million net new customers in 2008 and its total subscriber base now stands at 18.7 million. Total revenues and EBITDA increased by 3.3% and 22.8% from a year earlier to THB 67.7 billion and THB 23.2 billion, respectively. Furthermore, net profit came in at THB 9.3 billion, 60.0% higher than the previous year.
Chief Executive Officer Tore Johnsen said despite the oil price shock in the middle of the year, the flood during the third quarter, the deteriorating macro environment and escalation of the political uncertainty towards the end of the year, dtac managed to achieve most of the targets set for 2008. Moreover, 2009 will be an even more challenging year as consumer and business confidence remain low and there’s still no end in sight for the current global economic crisis. Therefore, dtac will closely monitor the economic development and the competition in the market, and will prepare measures to cope with those developments in a timely manner.
