Turkish Airlines Expects 3,000 Thai Tourists to Romania in 2009 Despite Downturn in Outbound Travel

Bangkok--18 Feb--Thana Burin Asia Pacific With the increasing number of Thai travellers expected to explore Eastern Europe and beyond, Turkish Airlines has joined hands with the Romanian Embassy and Edelweiss Tours in organising “Romania Simply Surprising”. According to Mr Adnan Aykac, Director of Turkish Airlines for Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam, “As I know Thai travellers always look for new and value for money destinations. In the past year we have seen that Romania has gained popularity with Thai travellers. “Our daily services offers ease of connection to Romania and other parts of Europe. Istanbul, our home base, is so centrally located we are an ideal network carrier. Last year Turkish Airlines organised a familiarisation trip for Thai travel agents to Romania and the feedback was most positive. This year we will organise seminars to provide up-to-date information on our airline and Romania tourist attractions besides our existing destination Turkey. Last year in 2008 we carried over 2,000 travellers from Thailand to Romania and despite the global economic woes and conservative consumer spending we still expect the numbers to increase by 50% to over 3,000 passengers,” Mr Aykac said. HE Mr Radu Gabriel Mateescu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Observer to ESCAP, said “Romania is located in the southeastern part of Central Europe and shares borders with several countries. Romania offers a rich tapestry of tourist attractions such as Bran Castle, Cozia Monastery, Revolution Square, Romania Glass Street and vacation experiences unique in Central-Eastern Europe covering historical, cultural and unseen jewels. “Our capital city of Bucharest offers a diverse and thriving culture witnessing medieval modern and contemporary eras. Of course Thais are happy to visit given our excellent shopping experience and a value for money pricing.” he concluded. Turkish Airlines has been operating to Thailand for almost 20 years. The airline currently operates ten flights weekly to Istanbul with connecting flights within Turkey, as well as other international flights to Romania, Eastern Europe and around the globe.
