Bangkok--18 Feb--Japan Foundation The Japan Foundation and 100 Tonson Gallery proudly present “What a Place Tells Us” photography and site-specific exhibition by Tomoko Yoneda and Yoshihiro Suda, curated by Yuka Uematsu ,Curator, the National Museum of Art, Osaka, Japan. Participated in Bangladesh Biennale 2008, “What a Place Tells Us” travels to Bangkok with the outstanding photography works by Tomoko Yoneda, talking about history and climate conditions of Bangladesh, while Yoshihiro Suda makes small sculptures out of wood to create site- installation. Tomoko Yoneda is a photographer who deals with the themes of history and memory, her photographs tell us about the flow of historical time and memory in these places. While Yoshihiro Suda creates small sculptures out of wood, carving the forms of plants; his flowers are often displayed in rather surprising of places after careful thought, and in some cases the viewer must search to find the work. By taking this action, the viewer gains an added awareness of the space where the art is exhibited as well as the art object as such. In this exhibition, both artists will show works in which the place speaks to us. The places shown in Yoneda’s photographs and the exhibition space revealed in Suda’s work are different kinds of places, but viewers can have a more meaningful dialogue with their work by becoming aware of place.
