Bangkok University Theatre Company brings Thai audiences ‘Dear Death’, an innovative Thai performing arts that relays Buddhist philosophy through theatre language during 28-29 March 2009 at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 pm. at the Aksra Theatre, King Power Complex. The arts will be led by an exceptional talented longtime performer Neeranuj Patthamasuth, alongside 50 young artists from Bangkok University’s Department of Performing Arts, School of Communication Arts. ‘Sabbe dhamma nalam abhinivesaya’ the prevalent moral of ‘Dear Death’, an innovative Thai performing arts is a rich amalgamation of contemporary Thai dance and music, capturing the spirit of Thai art spiced with an international flavor and blended with Thai music scores played with international instruments. In ‘Dear Death’, Buddhist philosophy is relayed through theatre language. The play is a story about grandmother and her grandson, epitomize a warm and loving Thai family. The grandmother, about to embark on an important ‘merit making journey’, lingers in apprehension. To calm the grandmother’s worries and fear, the grandson takes her through an entertaining yet philosophical and enigmatic interval to prepare her for the long ‘journey’. The ‘Angel of Death’ revealed here is a saint full of compassion who reaches out to liberate all beings from sorrow and illness. Finally, Grandmother sees the TRUTH of life and is ready to embark on her ‘journey’ in peace.
